Former Cedar Rapids Police Chief Dies in Plane Crash

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A former Cedar Rapids police chief is dead after a plane crash in Florida.

Greg Graham was the Cedar Rapids police chief from 2008 to 2012 before becoming chief in Ocala, Florida.

Investigators say he was the only one inside the plane when it crashed near a central Florida airport Sunday morning.

Graham is credited with leading the Cedar Rapids Police Department during heavy floods in 2008.

The Ocala Star Banner reports Graham had recently obtained his pilot's license.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department posted a tribute to Graham on its Facebook page:

"Chief Graham had an immediate impact on the Cedar Rapids Police Department and Cedar Rapids community, helping guide rescue and response efforts to the Flood of 2008 when flood waters overwhelmed the community from June 11-13.With a strong focus on community policing, Chief Graham initiated several policing programs including the school resource officer program during his time as Chief in Cedar Rapids.

We send our thoughts and prayers to the Graham family and the officers of the Ocala Police Department."
