Football And Other Intercollegiate Fall Sports Could Be On The Brink

ESPN cites sources in reporting commissioners of the big time college football conferences held an emergency meeting on Sunday, amid growing concern among college athletics officials and school chief executives that the upcoming football season and other fall sports will be shut down because of coronavirus.

Sunday, ESPN reported the Big 10 Conference reached out to the other "Power Five" commissioners to discuss if they wanted to proceed with the season.

A uniform decision between all five conferences is expected soon, and there is some talk of playing in the Spring.

The urgency picked up over the weekend when the Mid-American Conference on Saturday became the first "Football Bowl Subdivision" league to postpone the fall sports season, including football.

The Big 12, ACC, and SEC have tried to take a wait and see approach until after students return to their campuses this month.
