Iowa Continues Low Death Rate Trend From COVID-19, 460 New Cases

DES MOINES, Iowa - The are three new deaths from COVID-19 in Iowa and 460 additional positive cases of the virus as of Monday at 10 a.m.

There are 35,462 total cases, as 4,319 tests were conducted Sunday, a record for daily testing in Iowa. The positive test rate for Sunday was 7.5.

There have been a total of 752 deaths statewide. Daily reported deaths and hospitalizations have generally been falling over the past several weeks, with daily totals in single-digits.

Iowa officials have acknowledged a rise in cases among adults age 18-40.

A total of 377,138 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Iowa, and one-in-8 Iowans has been tested.

There have been 26,589 recoveries from the virus in the state. Governor Reynolds announced several weeks ago that the metrics for determining recoveries was changed. Because of the change, the recovery rate jumped from 62 percent to roughly 80 percent .

The state is reporting COVID-19 outbreaks at 16 long term care centers. Long term center outbreaks have dropped sharply from as much as 36 in recent weeks. There have been 397 long term care center deaths, accounting for 53 percent of the state total.

There are 174 hospitalizations from the virus. There are 54 ICU patients with 26 on ventilators.

The numbers for the state only represent COVID-19 figures compiled by the Iowa.
