Some of Iowa's young drivers earning learner's permit on-line

AMES, Iowa- A program allowing teens to take their driving learner's permit test at school, is expanding. The web-based test has been provided at 20-schools, and the Iowa DOT says more may be added soon.

Darcy Doty tells us students in participating schools can take the test at school, on-line.   She says when they pass, they get an email, which they take to the DOT or county treasurer's office, along with documents to prove their identity, and they'll get their instructional permit.

The DOT says taking the test on-line, helps reduce congestion at the DOT's motor vehicle stations.   They say parents and students like the convenience of the program, which is called "Skip the Trip."
