A new movie theatre is coming to Ames. North Grand Mall officials say a state-of-the-art, five-screen cinema will replace the former theatre at the mall, which shut down in 2014. Theatre co-owners Diane and Lee Akin say the theatre will include several modern amenities like a full bar, kitchen, and power reclining seats. The Akins also own movie theatres in Elkader, Iowa, and Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. They hope to open the North Grand Cinema in November. Mall officials also announced Thursday the first phase of a major renovation project. It will focus on the exterior appearance of the mall, parking lot upgrades and a large sign with a message board.
