The Ames City Council delayed final passage of use standards in a proposed Lincoln Way Downtown Gateway Corridor, but not before making a notable change. Mayor John Haila suggested the council postpone it's third reading by two weeks. he says it'll give him, City Manager Steve Schainker, and Planning and Housing Director Kelly Diekmann a chance to talk to businesses in the area. As for the change, the council okayed an amendement to the ordinance establishing pre-existing building uses, instead of making them non-conforming. Diekmann says the change is less restrictive to property owners. The council also gave 2nd-reading approval to the boundaries for rezoning--Grand Ave. east to Duff, and the Union Pacific railroad tracks to a half-block south of Lincoln Way.
