Republican Annette Sweeney is going to the Iowa Senate. She won a special election to replace former Senate Majority Leader Bill Dix in District 25, which includes most of Story County that's not Ames. Sweeney defeated Democrat Tracy Freese 56-44 percent with an almost thousand vote margin of victory. Dix resigned almost a month ago after being caught on video at a bar kissing a female lobbyist.
