"Sanctuary City" bill advances in House

A bill designed to punish Iowa cities financially if they adopt so-called "sanctuary city" policies is moving to the full House. A committee voted in favor of the measure Tuesday that passed the Senate last year. No state funds would go to cities and counties if they become a sanctuary for illegal immigrants and federal detainer requests would have to be honored. The meeting wasn't without controversy as seats for the public were reserved for legislative clerks by committee chairman Clel Baudler, but he relented and more people were able to attend.
