Senate okays traffic camera ban

On a bi-partisan vote Tuesday, the Iowa Senate approved a bill banning automated traffic cameras. Ottumwa Republican Mark Chelgren refuted Democrat arguments that the cameras lowered the number of accidents. Des Moines Democrat Tony Bisignano says the bill's an example of small towns telling the state's urban areas what to do. The ban voids all city and county ordinances on automated speed and red light cameras, and requires they be taken down July 1st.  Five Senate Democrats voted for the bill, three Republicans opposed it. The bill now goes to the Iowa House.
