Diversions are such an important part of life, too often we tire of the same conversations. Right now the weather is dominating many of our opening phrases, granted it is a natural conversation starter but how quickly you can move to another subject usually indicates the depth of your relationship with that person. I was reminded of this when I was talking with my younger brother Dave who is battling cancer, he said "I would rather talk about anything but my health" He realizes people are genuinely interested in how he's doing but is really trying not to think about it. He quickly changed the conversation to talk about his kids and grand children after about 15 minutes of monologue I asked him how his health was, he got the message we both laughed and started talking the Kentucky Derby. By the way, do you think we'll see sunshine soon?
