The Grass Can't Always Be Greener

Water shortages and drought are taking place in most of Iowa, some cities are already placing water restrictions. Although Story County hasn't yet you can be sure that they're not far in the future should this unusually hot spell continue. I practice water conservation daily utilizing a low flow shower and toilet, always on the lookout for drippy faucets and more importantly I don't waste water on the lawn. Most Iowa grasses are hearty in nature with the ability to go dormant for a couple of months, I know green is prettier than yellow (except with corn) and unless your grass is less than a year old it should survive. If watering is necessary, an inch a week should do it during early morning or evening hours.
