Ames murder suspect gets new lawyer

The man accused of murdering an Iowa State University student is getting a new lawyer. Story County District Court Judge Bethany Currie granted Colin Richards' request Monday after asking him if he was sure he wanted to change attorneys. She said she would appoint an attorney from the state public defender's Marshalltown office. Richards is accused of 1st degree murder in the September stabbing death of engineering student and champion golfer Celia Barquin Arozamena. In his request for a new lawyer, Richards cited "communication problems" with his former attorney. Richards' trial is set for April 30, 2019.
