Vetoed rental occupancy cap ordinance gets more work

The Ames City Council will do more work on an ordinance granting hardship exemptions to people who live near the Iowa State campus and are adversely effected by a rental occupancy cap.  After failing to overdide Mayor John Haila's veto of the ordinance, the council asked staff to draft new language that defines  a “bona fide” rental property, and limits rental permits to owners of one and two-bedroom properties in the capped neighborhoods who live in their homes and also have renters. The council hopes to have the new ordinance for it's meeting on the 28th.  If it passes, the council may do the three necessary readings that night.
