13th St. closes for reconstruction

Part of one of Ames' busiest streets closed Monday for a summer's worth of reconstruction. The city says 13th St. from the railroad tracks to Curtiss Ave. will close for utility, sidewalk, and pavement improvements. The first phase of work starts near Ridgewood Ave. and includes the installation of a new water main, storm and sanitary sewer updates and replacements, The addition of ADA compliant pedestrian ramps, and street reconstruction. The first phase is expected to be done in six to eight weeks, weather permitting. A detour will take traffic from Ridgewood to 16th St., then to Marston Ave. Phase two will see the same work from Curtiss Ave. to Harding and will take another six to eight weeks.
