Briggs to leave Ames School Board

The Ames School Board will have a vacancy next month. Director Rodney Briggs announced his resignation from the board at Monday meeting.  Briggs cited scheduling challenges that's come from his job as a Des Moines police officer as the reason for stepping down.  He says he and his family are also looking for a house in Des Moines that puts him closer to work.  Briggs has served seven years on the school board--having been elected initally in 2011, then reelected in 2015 to a term that was to expire next year. The Iowa Secretary of State's office says the school board must fill Brigg's vacancy with 30 days or call for a special election.
