For the first time in 12 years, Ames gets new mayor Tuesday as John Haila will be sworn in during City Hall ceremonies. He says he'll preside over a busy City Council in the opening months of 2018 with final passage of a rental housing code, the annual budget, and ongoing discussions of a Healthy Life Center. Haila says he's also looking forward to forging a relationship with another new leader in Ames--ISU President Wendy Wintersteen.
Incumbent City Council members Gloria Betcher and Amber Corrieri will also be sworn in Tuesday. New council member David Martin was sworn-in two weeks ago. The Ames City Council's first meeting in 2018 is next Tuesday.
