State lawmakers lay out priorities

State lawmakers will have a host of issues to address when they return to Des Moines next month to start the 2018 legislative session. Leaders in both chambers met in Thursday to talk about what issues they'd like to see addressed. Republican leaders who control the House and Senate said tax reform is a major priority, while  water quality was also mentioned as a priority. Democrats talked about education funding along with the state's transition to privatized Medicaid, which took a hit as AmeriHealth Caritas withdrew from the state's program this week.
