Council candidates see tax break benefits

Candidates in Ames' 3rd District City cCuncil race see a place for tax abatements in the city's economic development efforts.  Rob Bowers says he thinks those tax breaks are among a range of options that should be available for the city in attracting new business. Challenger David Martin says the use of tax abatements and other incentives can serve another purpose with new business coming to Ames--they can give the city leverage in dictating details of the project. Bowers and Martin are vying for the council seat being vacated by Peter Orazem, who announced last March that he would not run for another term.
