An Ames man is charged with carrying a weapon on the grounds of Des Moines Area Community College in Boone. Police were called to campus around 6:30 Wednesday night on a report of a student with a handgun in the waist band of his pants. Officers took him out of the classroom. The student Boyang Xu, 22, has a permit to carry but told police he did not know he couldn't carry the gun on school grounds.
