If Not Now, When?

One gets tired of the old excuse of  “ Now is not the time for the discussion of gun control but for mourning” I’m mourning the fact that no one has stepped up to implement the serious problem of gun violence in this country. The NRA’s next move is to legalize suppressors for guns, in other words the ability to shoot people without disturbing the peace. Numbers of fatalities are rising and obviously the only answer being offered is for all of us to arm ourselves. I’ve lived in a better and safer America when not so many felt they needed to be armed. It is the panic being exacerbated by gun advocates that has led to legislation that makes firearms available to everyone with few exceptions. It has also prevented legislation to keep arms that are met for combative situations out of the hands of civilians.  Are we really one of the greatest civilized countries when we feel we need to be armed. The time for debate is now, not after the next slaughter of innocents.
