The Ames City Council will consider imposing a six-month moratorium on new rental permits for single and two-family homes. The move follows a lengthy discussion earlier this month about how the city would control rental properties after the state legislature stripped it of the ability to regulate based on family status. Mayor Ann Campbell says the moratorium would buy the council time to figure out the best ways to balance housing in neighborhoods like Campustown.
