A Democrat state senator from Des Moines is putting forward a new healthcare plan she hopes will help children. Sen. Janet Peterson spoke Monday about a plan that lets children be covered through the Hawk-I health insurance program. The plan would kick in if a family no longer gets their regular healthcare coverage. Peterson's plan comes in addition to a stopgap plan Iowa officials are trying to get the federal government to approve.
