"Reggie's Sleepout" comes to Ames

A long-time youth homelessness awareness event is expanding to Ames this weekend. Organizers hope to draw thousands of people to Jack Trice Stadium Saturday night for "Reggie's Sleepout", an event named for a Des Moines man who became homeless and killed himself after aging out of the foster care system. YSS President and CEO Andrew Allen says the Ames event benefits three agencies on the front lines of youth homelessness: YSS, the Emergency Residence Project, and Access. He says they hope the event raises $100,000. Drake Stadium in Des Moines has hosted a "Reggie's Sleepout" the last 11 years.
