Budget Shortfall Tops $130 Million

Iowa lawmakers are staring at a budget shortfall projected at over $130 million. The governor's office says there have already been cuts made to the current budget which means additional cuts aren't feasible. Governor Branstad proposes using the state's cash reserves to cover the difference and meet the needs of the current fiscal year. The fiscal year ends June 30th. Both the governor and Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds say they are committed to reimbursing the cash reserve account in the next two budgets.
