Fire Destroys North Ames Home

Fire has destroyed an abandoned home in north Ames. The Ames fire department says they were dispatched to the residence at 4100 Dawes Drive around 11:00 Sunday night. They say the fire had spread throughout the single-story building when they arrived and a roof collapse forced them to fight the fire from the outside. The fire department says neighbors told them squatters had been inside the house earlier in the day but they believe no one was there at the time of the fire and no one was injured. The $163,000 home is considered a total loss.
