Ames mayor bemoans loss of local control

Ames' mayor says a theme is becoming clear as the 2017 session of the Iowa Legislature goes past the halfway mark.  Ann Campbell says the idea of local control through so-called "home rule" is clearly under attack--from collective bargaining changes, to efforts to bar counties from setting their own minimum wage. She says there's an issue very specific to Ames--a bill that will end the city's ability to use family relationships to determine rental occupancy.  Campbell says it appears the city's only hope to keep the occupancy bill from becoming law is a veto from Gov. Branstad--something she says they're not banking on.
