A new ISU police chief

Iowa State University has a new top cop.  In a news release, the university says Michael Newton is the new police chief, effective April 3rd. Newton has served in the University of Wisconsin police department since 1998, climbing to the rank of captain in 2010. He has experience in emergency management, patrol, and planning and development.  At Iowa State, Newton will oversee the public safety department, which includes the police and parking divisions. his responsibilities will also include community engagement and outreach, emergency planning and management, and threat assessment and response. Newton succeeds former police chief Jerry Stewart who retired in 2015. Interim chief Aaron Delashmutt will continue to serve as ISU’s assistant police chief.
