The Ames City Council gave it's OK Tuesday to a Main Street Cultural District country music concert scheduled for the Friday before the Iowa State-Iowa football game in September. The approval comes despite concern from First Ward Council Member Gloria Betcher that a big event involving alcohol on an already busy weekend is asking for trouble, no matter how well it's planned. Second Ward Council Member Tim Gartin says he has confidence the city can handle the concert and the football weekend. In years past, the Main Street country concert was held on Thursday and Sunday nights.
