"Texting-while-driving" ban advances

An Iowa Senate subcommittee has advanced a plan to ban the use of hand-held phones while driving.  The bill is now in the hands of the Senate Transportation Committee after passing the subcommittee Tuesday.  Iowans could only use a hands-free method of communicating while driving in an effort to stop distracted driving in the state.  Gov. Terry Branstad has pushed for legislation addressing ways to cut down on distracted driving as more than 400 people died on Iowa roads last year.
