*BREAKING* Three wounded in Campustown shooting

Three people are in the hospital after an overnight shooting in Campustown in Ames.  Cmdr. Geoff Huff says it all started about 1:30 Sunday morning as a fight brought officers to the area of Chamberlain and Stanton Avenues.  A short time later, a red passenger car stopped in the 200 block of Welch Ave. and shots were fired into the crowd from the vehicle. It is believed the individuals involved were also involved in the earlier fight. Huff says officers on foot in the immediate area returned fire into the suspect vehicle. The suspects then stopped shooting and fled northbound on Welch Ave. and west on Lincoln Way.  Huff says the police want to talk to anyone who may have caught the shooting on a cell phone camera. The victims of the shooting have not been identified. He says their injuries don't appear to be life threatening.   The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation was called in to assist with the investigation. Huff also says, per department policy, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.
